5 Senses Review: CAMBODIA

Sight:
The killing fields in Phnom Penh stood out as the most rare sight. Seeing human bones certainly isn't something you do everyday & seeing 9,000 skulls was just shocking. Many of the skulls were crushed in, showing the brutality of the deaths.

Sound:
The lizards are certainly unique over here, but the geckos in Cambodia are loud! They make this clicking noise and you hear them all over the place. It took us a while to figure out what was making the sounds, but now you hear them all the time. My favorite is when they are in your room somewhere and they wake you up before the roosters.

Taste:
While eating at the best Mexican restaurant in Indochina ranks near the top, I took pleasure in simple foods in Cambodia. My favorite, or well, most surprisingly delicious food found was scrambled eggs and toast. While in a slightly westernized cafe in Siem Reap I had the fluffiest eggs and richest buttered toast- quite a wonderful find.

Touch:
The sight of the Angkor temples was incredible, but actually touching something built in the 5th century was unreal. Rough rocks lined the temples, moss grew around the edges, the age was a apparent. It really places you amongst history.

Smell:
There seems to be a distinct smell in all markets we've visited, but the local market we happened upon in Phnom Penh is the winner for the smell contest. The mixture of human sewage, salted fish, rare vegetables, and sweat from the locals all hustling around town was definitely unique.
