5 Senses Review: LAOS

Sight:
Incomparable is the sight of the mountains surrounding Vang Vieng. Whether relaxing in the town or kayaking down the Nam Song River, the limestone cliffs are always right around the corner. One of my favorite things about Laos, hands down.

Sound:
The roaring waters of the Tad Sae waterfall. As we made our way down the river in a rather tipsy long tail boat, you could hear the powerful falls before seeing them. We knew the sight of them would be extraordinary before even laying eyes on them.

Taste:
Many delicious foods found in Laos, but the most traditional and unique was the Luang Prabang Stew. A thick mixture of eggplant, chicken, peas, green beans, mushrooms, galanga ginger, and lemongrass all over a healthy serving of rice was a favorite taste of Laos.

Touch:
One of our top guilty pleasures of Laos was spending time (and money) in the Luang Prabang night market. As we browsed the various tents filled with incredible handmade items (shirts, souvenirs, fisherman pants, etc.) we felt each product for quality and bargained for the best price. Such a fun 'touch' of Laos.

Smell:
The 17-hour local bus is a memory I will not soon forget- in particular would be the smell. The combination of locals caked in mud from the tires, various people who slept on my shoulder, stagnant air, not to mention Chris and me by the end of the journey- all made for a unique smell to remember.
